Cocos Island ( Spanish : Isla del Coco ), is an island located off the shore of Costa Rica . It constitutes the 11th district (one of 13) of Puntarenas Canton of the province of Puntarenas. It is one of the National Parks of Costa Rica . It is located in the Pacific Ocean , approximately 550 km (340 mi) from the Pacific shore of Costa Rica.

The Arenal Volcano , in Spanish Volcán Arenal , is an active andesitic stratovolcano in north-western Costa Rica (10.5N, 84.7W), around 90 km north-west of San José , in the province of Alajuela , canton of San Carlos , and district of La Fortuna . It is the most active volcano in Costa Rica.

Miravalles Protected Zone is a nature reserve in the central part of Costa Rica , which forms part of the Arenal Tilaran Conservation Area . The site contains the Miravalles Volcano , which is still active although the last recorded eruption was only of steam vents in 1946 .

Cerro Chirripó is the highest mountain in Costa Rica , with an altitude of 3,820 metres . It is located in the Chirripó National Park and is noted for its ecological wealth. The high peaks in this and La Amistad International Park host important areas of Talamancan montane forest and Costa Rican Páramo with high endemism and an extremely high biodiversity .

Tortuguero National Park is a National Park within the Tortuguero Conservation Area . The reserve is also included in the Humedal Caribe Noreste , a wetland of international importance under the Ramsar Convention. The park is located in the Limón Province of northeastern Costa Rica . It is the third-most visited park in Costa Rica, despite the fact that it can only be reached by airplane or boat .

The Poás Volcano is in central Costa Rica . There are two crater lakes near its summit. Poás has erupted 39 times since 1828. The volcano is located within the Poas Volcano National Park . It is considered the largest active crater in the world, about 1 mile (1.6 km.) wide and 320 meters deep, with frequent geyser-like eruptions.
